Plan Your Vietnam Trip Series
There are so many things to do and see in Vietnam. If you plan your Vietnam trip (whether it’s for a honeymoon, a family vacation or for a group of friends), it can get a bit overwhelming.
My goal is to help you plan your Vietnam trip smoothly by providing information, tips and tricks!
This blog post serves as a hub that links to different articles that can help you plan your trip. You’re recommended to go through each step in sequential order, but it’s ultimately up to you how you make the most of this guide – you might have done most of these steps already!
If you find this guide helpful, consider buying me Ko-Fi. This helps me keep the blog running. Alternatively, consider booking using my link, I may get a small commission at no cost to you. I appreciate your support!
Decide when and where to go!
Did you know that Vietnam has 3 regions, and that each region has their own weather pattern? That means that it’s difficult to find the best time to visit all 3 regions at once! However, this also means that no matter when you go to Vietnam, you’ll be able to visit at least one region with good and pleasant weather.
Choose the region(s) you want to visit based on the weather. If there’s a region you really want to visit, consider booking when the weather is good, otherwise you might find yourself visiting during monsoon season!
Read all about the different weather in each of the region below:
Check entry requirements
Make sure your passport has at least six-months validity from the date you decide to fly. Some countries and airlines can deny you boarding or entry if you have less than six months’ validity on your passport.
Vietnam also has an eVisa that you may need to have before entering the country. Check out my article below for some frequently asked questions:

Set a budget
This is one of the most important things to plan! Vietnam is an affordable destination, but having a budget is a great idea.

Book flights
Depending on your budget, this may be one of your larger expenses! If you’re not too fussed with flying (or you’re planning to mostly sleep throughout the flight), then consider booking cheaper flights.
Here are some websites to find cheaper flights (both international and domestic):
If you’re flying Jetstar, we tried a variety of snacks (so many snacks 😂) and gave my verdict on whether they’re worth it:
If you’re booking your domestic flights in Vietnam, you can read all about our experience flying with three different carriers – VietJet, VieTravel and Vietnam Airlines – below:

Sort out accommodation
Accommodation is pretty affordable in Vietnam, especially compared to Australia. If you’re skimping on the flights, then I recommend you splurge a little bit on your accommodation!
Here are some websites to find good accommodations with deals:
You can read all about my detailed reviews on the accommodation we stayed at. I’ve made sure to include pros & cons, list of facilities and a video room tour!

Choose the activities you’ll do
This is one of my favourite things to plan, haha!
Since you’ve narrowed down when you’ll visit, and what regions to go to, you can research what activities you can do in the area. Don’t worry about putting it into an itinerary first, but use this part of the planning process to hype yourself up for the upcoming trip!
If you’re planning the trip yourself, check out these websites for their list of attractions and activities available:
I’ve written up another series called What’s Worth the Hype – Vietnam edition. We tried the ‘viral’ attractions and activities we saw on TikTok and Instagram, and rated whether or not they’re worth the hype! Learn from our mistakes – read the article below:
Put your itinerary together
Depending on how busy you want your trip to be, you can make your itinerary as jam-packed or as relaxing as possible!
If you’d like an idea for an itinerary, check out our actual 2-week itinerary in Vietnam below:
Organise transport
Grab is really handy to use in Vietnam, but when arriving in Vietnam, consider using a private airport transfer. Here’s our breakdown of when it’s worth using it, and when it’s worth using Grab.
If you’re looking into day trips, have a look at sleeper buses, private limousine vans and other means of transport to get around Vietnam.
Prepare for your trip!
