Vietnam eVisa – Everything You Need to Know
If you’re planning to go to Vietnam, you might have to apply for an eVisa. Here’s everything you need to know – from applying and other frequently asked questions! Feel free to comment on this post if you have any questions!
What is the official website to apply?

How much does it cost to apply for an eVisa?
Check first if your passport needs a visa to enter Vietnam! It may be that you don’t need to apply.
The eVisa costs $25 USD for single entry and $50 USD for multiple entry.
When do I need to apply for the eVisa?
You can apply up to 12 months in advance. But make sure to apply at least 2 weeks before your trip. In my experience, it can take up to 4-5 business days for them to issue the eVisa.
Of course, the earlier the better! But just note: you will need to provide your flights and accommodation for your eVisa application.
Do I need to create an account first?
There is no need to create an account if you’ve already booked your accommodation and flights. You only need to create an account if you can’t finish the application in one sitting.
Filling in the eVisa application
I don’t have my flights and accommodation sorted out yet! Can I still fill in the application?
That’s okay! If you don’t have that sorted yet, just use the hotel that you’re currently looking at staying in, and use port of entry as the city you’re thinking of arriving in.
My port of entry changed – do I have to apply again?
No, you do not need to apply again as long as you arrive though approved list of entry points.

My accommodation changed – do I have to apply again?
No, you do not need to apply again.
What dates should I apply the visa for?
Visa dates are fixed, so it’s best to set your visa start date a few days before your planned arrival and end date a few days after your departure. That way, you’re covered in case of flight delays or cancellations.
It says (Middle, First Name) how do I fill this in?
Please follow what it says on your passport. Don’t put your middle name first if this isn’t what shows up first on your passport.
My payment won’t come through!
Don’t panic! Try the following tips:
- Clear your cookies
- Go incognito
- Use a different internet browser
Double check to make sure if the payment really did go through on your mobile banking app before retrying the payment method. Note that if you do any of the tips, you will have to fill in your visa application again. Make sure to double check your information each time!
What happens if I make a mistake filling out the eVisa?
If you made a mistake in filling out your name on the eVisa, I highly suggest you apply again (if time allows). I know it’s another $25-50 USD but if it’s discovered in immigration you will have to pay for another visa, which can cost $200 or more. Unfortunately, I’m speaking from experience. One of the people in my group forgot to put a space between his first and second name, and he had to pay $200 NZD out of pocket for another visa.
If you’d rather entrust this process to a third party, there are different eVisa services available online:
Klook.comDo they email the eVisa?
They don’t email the eVisa. You will need to go to the website to search for your application.
